About This Course

Capstone project to begin with research workshops focusing on the required research methods including design-based research. The credit hours for capstone will be spread across all semesters to rack periodic progress.

The focus will be to build knowledge and competence in systematic processes that involve research know-how to develop and validate digital programs, tools, resources, curriculum, evaluation etc. The Capstone project will be connected to one’s specialisation in education technology. It will require students to choose a field site or will be assigned a field site, under the supervision of a field mentor and faculty guide.

The capstone project will have clear outputs in the form of an artefact, curriculum, professional development, prototype design and pilot/usability study, designing and implementing an evaluation study related to their specialisation, creating guidelines or recommendations for policy, etc. The proposal for the capstone project needs to be approved by the field and faculty mentors before the field engagement starts. The field sites can be from K-12 or higher ed practice, start-ups or EdTech companies, research think tanks, state or central government agencies, other organisations, etc.

Course Objectives:

In this Capstone, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn the content regarding education and technology, and examine them critically to aid critical thinking
  • Collaborate toward a common goal of developing a educational research and product framework
  • Develop and increase advocacy and organizational skills
  • Gain theoretical insight and background information on learning, and learn the value of reflection in the educational process.

Who can join the course?

The course will be available to students who have registered or invited for the MA in Education and Technology program.

Mr. Anil Mammen

Mr Anil Mammen is a Professor of Practice at the Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education (CETE) at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). After completing his masters in English Language & Literature from Madras Christian College, Anil started his career as a journalist and then worked for a few years as a copywriter in advertising. From April 2000 until February 2023, he worked with the Tata group – first with Tata Interactive Systems (TIS) and later with Tata ClassEdge (TCE). Anil was the head of instructional design at TIS and helped design digital learning solutions for several international educational projects and corporate learning programs. From April 2014 until February 2023, he served as the Chief of Learning Design and Social Impact at Tata ClassEdge, a leading provider of technology-enabled learning solutions for schools in India. TCE’s digital education products are designed around a learning design framework created by Anil called the Multiple Learning Experiences Model. He has written various articles on EdTech for The Hindu, Huffington Post, Business World and industry journals.
