About This Course

This course will take participants through steps of design thinking as applicable in education. Through collaboration and iterative thinking around the design, participants will develop ways of thinking through and creating solutions to their identified problems. This involves integrating the students’ context, affordances of technology and consideration of systemic constraints into the design thinking process to create meaningful, implementable and contextual solutions. This course is suitable for teachers, curriculum designers and developers, teacher educators, education practitioners and those involved/interested in materials and curriculum design and development in the subjects of language (Modern Indian Languages including English as a first or second language), mathematics and science, education technology, textbook design, children’s learning, (interdisciplinary) themes like environment, gender etc.

Modality of delivery:

The course will be spread over 6 weeks and will be delivered in a blended format (Online synchronous sessions + Asynchronous activities on the platform). Synchronous sessions could also be in-person. Learners will be mentored and supported throughout the course period for developing their design. The course also includes fieldwork and self-study.

Objectives:

The objective of this course is to introduce ‘Design Thinking in Education’ for creating meaningful, pedagogically valid teaching-learning resources and experiences. The course aims to help participants:

  • Locate and identify a pedagogical problem within a context
  • Design creative solutions for a problem
  • Integrate technology to address the problem
  • Prototype and test the tool/resource
  • Create an iteration of the tool/resource

Who can join the course:

Education practitioners (teachers, teacher educators, curriculum and material designers, ed-tech designers, etc)

Requirements

Educator will need to have access to computing devices with connectivity for the entire duration of the programme.

  1. A smart phone with internet access to the course and participation in online communities of practice.
  2. A computer with internet access to complete and upload assignments.
